Fort Defiance Interpretive Center & Park
History and Heritage | Downtown
Fort Defiance overlooks the Red and Cumberland Rivers atop a 200' bluff, giving the earthen works fort a breathtaking view of the Clarksville skyline. A large interpretive center tells and shows the history of the site -- and the Civil War -- from many perspectives. You'll also learn the fascinating and turbulent history of the site itself from the time of Clarksville's earliest settlers. The remarkable preservation of the area makes it one of the few intact earthen works forts in the U.S.
Around the corner from the defensive river fort is Sevier Station, home of early settler Valentine Sevier (brother to Tennessee's first governor, John Sevier) and Montgomery County's oldest standing structure.
