Historic Architecture

Clarksville values its history and heritage, and there's no greater evidence of that than the preservation of our stunning historic architecture. In the downtown area, see examples primarily from the 1830s to the 1880s. Many buildings survived fires, tornadoes, and floods over the decades -- many did not. Still, newer construction honors the past with complementing architectural details.

On the outskirts of town, explore antebellum mansions that are now commercial businesses, public property, and private residences. Many were built by wealthy tobacco merchants who made their fortunes trading along the Cumberland River.
