Independence Day at the Courthouse
One Millennium Plaza
Clarksville, TN 37040
The Independence Day commemoration at the Montgomery County Historic Courthouse provides citizens with the opportunity to experience history. From the reading of the Declaration of Independence and the shooting of the cannon by the Sons of the American Revolution, the celebration brings Revolutionary history to life.
The reading of the Declaration will begin at 10 a.m. on the courthouse stairs facing Second Street. David Brockman, who generally leads the reading of the Declaration of Independence, will share the duty with children and other citizens this year. At the end of the ceremony a cannon firing and musket firings will take place.
The Sons of the American Revolution is an American congressionally chartered non-profit organization that was founded in 1889. The group is dedicated to perpetuating American ideals and traditions, and to protecting the Constitution of the United States.
The Sons of the American Revolution will have a color guard participating and Porters Battery will crew the cannon. It is advised that the viewing public arrive early since the street facing the Customs House Museum will be closed.
