About

Constructed in 1898 as Clarksville’s first U.S. Post Office and Customs House for the flourishing tobacco trade, this architecturally fascinating structure is among the most iconic landmarks in the region. Today, it stands as a general interest museum and boasts an array of attractions to delight visitors of all ages.

Step inside to discover permanent historical installations, rotating fine art exhibits, and a bustling family art studio. History comes to life through engaging events, programs, and one of the region's largest model train layouts.

For families, the adventure continues into Explorers Landing, featuring the interactive children's exhibit Exploring Our Town. This exhibit showcases the elements that shaped the growth of Clarksville, from farming and transportation to local wildlife and the Cumberland and Red Rivers. Explorers Landing includes numerous engaging activities and learning opportunities like Building Our Town, The Bubble Cave, Puppet Theatre, and McGregor’s Market.

Museum memberships are available at multiple price points. All Museum members enjoy an array of benefits, including FREE admission for an entire year, exclusive invitations to Museum events, discounted or FREE programs, and a discount at Seasons: The Museum Store. Plus, members can participate in various reciprocal membership programs, opening doors to exploration at museums across the country.

The Customs House Museum proudly supports our nation's active-duty military personnel and their families as a Blue Star Museum. From Armed Forces Day in May to Labor Day in September, free admission is extended to military ID holders and up to five family members.

The Museum also participates in Museums for All, a nationwide program supporting those receiving food assistance (SNAP) benefits. Visitors can enjoy reduced admission fees with a presentation of the SNAP Electronic Benefits Transfer (EBT) card, allowing up to six people per group to access the Museum for just $3 per person (ages 3 and above). Children ages 2 and under receive free admission.

Visit the Customs House Museum & Cultural Center to explore a world of history, art, and culture that is enriching and accessible to all.
